Who hasn’t at some point in their lives been troubled by some aspect of their appearance?

This reaction is a human one that most people share. This Is Me! musically looks at this issue of self-acceptance from many angles and perspectives.

The newly commissioned work, EveryBODY is the impetus behind the theme, but we have expanded this work to include many other songs that speak to the personal struggles that individuals, regardless of ethnicity or gender, may encounter through life. EveryBODY was commissioned by Twin Cities Gay Men’s Chorus, Turtle Creek Chorale, Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington, Atlanta Women’s Chorus, One Voice Chorus, and the Appalachian Equality Chorus. Composers of this work include Kyle Pedersen, Gerald Gurss, B.E. Boykin, Sharon Udoh, and Melissa Dunphy and some of our additional selections are by Mary Lambert, India Irie, Sia, and P!nk. The songs celebrate all voicings, Soprano and Alto, Tenor and Bass, and all voices together!

As the Atlanta Women’s Chorus and the Atlanta Gay Men’s Chorus unite forces for this show it is an opportunity for a shared focus on supporting people where they are! Songs from many genres will captivate you as we speak from the heart about our own insecurities and triumphs! You will leave celebrating yourself just as you are!

TRANSformation

Jeffrey McIntyre founded the Atlanta Gay Men’s Chorus in 1981 because he knew that the negative things being said about gay men and gay culture in the media were propaganda and he wanted to get a group together to tell true, beautiful stories. For over 40 years the AGMC has been telling meaningful, powerful, accurate queer stories. The truth is, queer stories told with honesty and integrity are universal stories that will move any audience member. Today, the trans community is under fire from the same people who were spouting hateful nonsense 4 decades ago. TRANSformation is a concert focused on the trans experience. Curated by a group of trans and non-binary members of the Atlanta Gay Men’s Chorus and Atlanta Women’s Chorus as well as members of the broader Atlanta trans community, these songs acknowledge the struggle and celebrate the beauty and authenticity of choosing to be your true self in spite of myriad societal pressures. We’ll experience some of the pain and isolation of pre-transition existence like in “Iris” by the Goo Goo Dolls (“I don’t want the world to see me ‘cause I don’t think that they’d understand”) and “Reflection” from Mulan (“When will my reflection show who I am inside?”). The yearning we’ve all felt to find where we belong in songs like “Corner of the Sky” from Pippen and “Lost Boy” by Ruth B.. More than anything, we’ll celebrate the courage it takes and the joy it brings to be your true, authentic self in this world with “All I Know so Far” by P!NK, a new arrangement of Bob Dylan’s “Times They Are A-Changin’” and “This is Me” from The Greatest Showman.

Returning to the Root

“Returning to the Root” is a concert about the golden rule that is central to both religious and secular communities. The concert will focus on the concept of a loving relationship between people within a sacred context (particularly LGBTQ+ loving relationships), rather than on the more traditional religious concept of a personal, loving relationship with a higher power.
